5 Artists of Color known for their self reflective artworks
Yayoi Kusama: Known for her immersive and colorful installations, Yayoi Kusama explores themes of infinity, self-obliteration, and the human connection to the universe through her work. Her "Infinity Mirror" rooms, for example, offer a unique opportunity for self-reflection. Alma Thomas: Alma Thomas was an abstract artist known for her colorful and dynamic abstract paintings. Her work is inspired by nature and the world around her, and it's a reflection of her personal experiences. Shinique Smith: Shinique Smith's art combines elements of graffiti, calligraphy, and abstract expressionism. She explores themes of identity, consumerism, and personal experiences in her work. Mark Bradford: Mark Bradford is a mixed-media artist whose work often incorporates found materials. He addresses social and political issues, as well as personal experiences, through abstract and collage art. El Anatsui: El Anatsui is known for his large-scale installations made from found materials, like bottle caps. His work explores themes of identity, tradition, and the environment, and it often reflects his Ghanaian heritage. Rashid Johnson: Rashid Johnson is a contemporary artist who works with a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, and photography. His art often delves into themes of race, identity, and personal history. Zarina Hashmi: Zarina's work is characterized by its minimalism and use of paper and printmaking techniques. She explores themes of memory, displacement, and home, often drawing from her own experiences. |

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954): While she is known for self-portraits, her works often go beyond traditional portraits to explore her personal experiences, emotions, and inner world. Rufino Tamayo (1899-1991): Tamayo's work often reflects his inner self, featuring abstract and symbolic elements that convey his emotions and thoughts. David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896-1974): A prominent muralist, Siqueiros' murals often contain allegorical and symbolic elements, conveying social and personal themes. Leonora Carrington (1917-2011): Carrington, though originally British, became associated with the Surrealist movement in Mexico. Her works are known for their dreamlike, fantastical, and introspective qualities. María Izquierdo (1902-1955): Izquierdo was known for her Symbolist and Surrealist paintings, which often contained personal symbolism and reflections on her experiences. Remedios Varo (1908-1963): Another artist associated with Surrealism, Varo's work often features intricate and dreamlike compositions that convey her inner world and personal reflections. Draw 4 boxes about 4 inches each
Sketch a different idea in each box- 5 minutes each
