Logo DAID: post-process writing
Describe Analyze Interpret Decide
Now that you have completed your logo, please reflect on your process in the creation. After answering the following questions in Word or Google Docs, copy and paste it into an Illustrator file with your logo at the top- See example below.
Your Logo Design:
Describe: In at least one paragraph (4-6 sentences) answer all the following questions.
What is the work you are writing about? How did you make it? Describe your process from start to finish. Talk about the steps you took in making your Logo.
Analyze: How did you use at least 2 of the principles of design in your logo? Choose two and write specifically how you used each one in your design. 2-3 sentences per principle of Design.
Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, Movement, Pattern, Rhythm, Unity
Interpret: In 3-5 sentences explain what does the Logo symbolize? Why did you choose the colors you used? What do the other parts/symbols/drawings mean?
Decide: In 3-5 sentences tell me was the Logo successful? Tell me what went right for you in the creation and what you struggled with.
THE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
Contrast: refers to the arrangement of opposite elements (light vs. dark colors, rough vs. smooth textures, large vs. small shapes, etc.) in a piece so as to create visual interest, excitement and drama.
Emphasis: One method used to attract attention in a design is the use of a focal point. A focal point draws your attention to the most important element on the page.
Movement: The suggestion of motion in a work of art or design by the relationship of the basic elements in a design or composition.
Pattern: The elements of Art repeat in a predictable manner.
Rhythm: is a movement in which some elements are drawn regularly. Like a dance it will have a flow of objects that will seem to be like the beats of music. It's just like pattern and shows that the design has a 'beat' or 'flow' going with it.
Unity: The total visual effect in a design achieved by the careful blending of the elements of art and the principles of design. All the elements of art and principles of design combined into one design.
Balance: To understand balance, think of the balance beam. When objects are of equal weight, they are in balance.
Symmetrical Balance- the same on both sides
Asymmetrical Balance- different on both sides but still visually balanced
Radial Balance- everything comes from a center point
